Introduction to Cyber-Bully
In this current of modernity, the internet is a medium or network for us to connect with each other and the outside world. A variety of information can be obtained by simply moving one finger on the screen of a smartphone or on a computer mouse. Various mediums can be used such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tiktok and so on. The Internet can bring many benefits to its users if used for a good purpose. However, the internet can also be detrimental to a person if not used ethically. Despite the countless advantages envisioned by the integration of the cyber-world, something darker begins to intrude on the lives of vulnerable people. When people get involve with cyber bully the perpetrator will not feel anything but the victim will suffer in their daily life or even worst in their entire life.
According to statistics released by Cyber Security Malaysia (CSM), cyber-crime cases are increasing from year to year. Every 1000 cases and above have been reported every year in the country with losses reaching millions of ringgit, including cases of online fraud such as banking and online buying and selling issues as well as intrusion of computer systems by hackers skilled in using the system. Therefore, internet abuse is not an issue that we can take lightly, all parties must work together in dealing with such problems.
The meaning of cyberbullying according to the National Crime Prevention Council, is when the internet, cell phones, laptops or other devices used to send text or images are intended to injure or embarrass another person. The issue of cyber bullying is no stranger to us. Just look at the example today, the various ways done by a handful of irresponsible people such as making the Ministers the subject of jokes and some throwing abusive words such as insults to offend someone. This should not happen as it can mentally injure a person as it is only due to cyber bullying happening to oneself. Various reactions have been given by the community to issues like this. Some supported and some objected because they felt this was right. If thought more deeply, cyber bullies are more dangerous than the act of bullying others because cyber bullies can only keep their identities secret and can bully their victims no matter the time.
This situation will cause many things to happen, including things that can be life threatening. So, please love others and don’t let them become bullies or victims of cyberbullying. Most victims and perpetrators of cyber bullying are teenagers and youths, but there are also those over the age of 40.
Problem Analysis
The major concern that leads cyberbullying among Malaysian is lack of behaviour. Behaviour is also called as attitude that everyone needs when come to social media platforms. According to a survey conducted by the Malaysia Communications and Multimedia Commissions (MCMC) involving 14000 school students, 70% of the respondents admitted to having been harassed online through improper pictures or messages posted and being called mean names. Meanwhile, statistics provided by MyCERT (Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team) of Cyber Security Malaysia show that they received 260 reports on cyber harassment cases in 2019.
Another problem is Malaysia is the second country in Asia with the highest record of cyberbullying. This is a big problem that needs to be addressed at an immediate rate as it will probably cause significant problems for the country for example in terms of the national economy. Cyber bullying crime statistics in the last 5 years show that cases are declining in the next 2 years but increasing sharply in 2020. Among the bad behaviours displayed by cyber bullies are such as cursing, insulting and body shaming. If this situation continues non-stop, it will give a negative impact to our country. This situation also made many people will be affected because they are victims of cyber bullying. For example, victims of cyber bullying will suffer from depression so much so that some take the easy way out to treat themselves such as taking some bad stuff like drug and they also can committing suicide.
Moreover, the widespread use of social media makes it a platform to encourage acts of cyberbullying and bad attitudes, not only among youth, but even adults. Studies show perpetrators of cyberbullying experience high rates of silence. This is due to the lack of love of family members and the community around them. Online bullying is their attempt to grab attention from strangers. Those with low self -esteem, a sense of socially less acceptance and a sense of being less popular or less liked, also have a tendency to engage in cyberbullying, following studies showing that cyberbullying is often unsocially savvy individuals.
What is Traumatized Victims
Trauma can manifest itself in a variety of ways. You can personally feel the traumatic occurrence in which you are the victim. You can see or hear someone else going through a stressful situation. You may discover that the incident involved a close relative or acquaintance. Alternatively, as part of your professional work, you can witness or hear genuine details of a death, major injury, or violence. Almost every adult has experienced at least one traumatic event over their lifetime.
